YOU WILL BE ANSWERING 2 ESSAY QUESTIONS: One will be on a "treatment" of your choice (one presented by another group than your own) and the other essay will be on a school autism program of your choice from the Handelman and Harris book. So, your choice is WITHIN each question. Hope this is now clear.

POSSIBLE Essay questions for MIDTERM Exam

1. What do we mean by “science” when we are referring to a set of methods for learning about our world? What is the difference between science and pseudoscience? How can we tell the difference?

2. How do we know that that the application of ABA is an effective system for autism treatment? Describe at least 2 studies that support the use of ABA for autism treatment (one should be the Lovaas, 1987 study). Include their methods, findings, and conclusions.

3. What is ABA? Include a description of the 7 dimensions outlined by Baer, Wolf, and Risley (1968). What are at least 5 myths about ABA? Why are these myths inaccurate depictions of ABA?

4. What is autism? Describe the diagnostic characteristics from the DSM with as much details as possible. How does autism differ from Asperger disorder and PDD-NOS? Why is autism called a “spectrum” disorder?
