Attendance is mandatory.  More than one absence at a class meeting or an individual conference may result in the lowering of the final grade of the student.  Extenuating circumstances must be addressed directly to the instructor.


Course Description

ED610 guides students through the process of creating a research proposal for action research to be conducted in their school systems.  This proposal will include a statement of the problem, a review of related literature, and a description of the methodology to be used in the study.  As part of the process, students will develop an understanding of research procedures and analyze published research related to their topic of study.

 

Course Objectives

  1. Identify research questions relevant to one’s study
  2. Consider the ethical and moral issues in researching practice with children
  3. Review and analyze important research related to topic
  4. Design a study using qualitative or quantitative methodology
  5. Provide a rationale for researching own practice
  6. Present a proposal for critique and refinement
  7. Complete a research proposal that will enable students to collect, analyze, and interpret data within the classroom setting in an organized, professional manner

 

Course Requirements

  1. Students are required to read all readings assigned
  2. Students are required to attend and participate in class discussions as well as individual conferences
  3. Students are required to complete a research proposal
  4. Students are to keep and submit a journal of daily research experiences

            Attendance and participation                                         20%

            Timely submission of rough drafts                                  20%

            Successful submission of daily journal                10%
