This is a typical scene in Brugge. The city's canals silted up in the 1500's and therefore the city became isolated. It was not bombed during WWII so it is a very well preserved sample of what a 16th century city would look like. |

This is a statue of Simone Stevin (1548 - 1620) in the heart of the city. He was a mathematician, physicist, philologist, biologist and engineer. |
