Friday
1-5-2001
The group met at Newark Airport and checked in at SAS for flight # 912 to Copenhagen, Denmark.
 
Things were looking a bit dicey because of snow in the north Jersey area but after 2 de-icings we took off about 90 minutes late. 
 
Saturday
1-6-2001
After an uneventful overnight flight we arrived at Copenhagen airport and quickly moved to a new gate where we boarded SAS flight # 593 to Brussels.
 
After landing we gathered our bags and headed for our motorcoach. Met Henri who would be our guide throughout most of our trip.
 
Around noon we arrived in downtown Brussels at Hotel le Dome which was to be our hotel until Thursday when we leave for Paris.
 
We have several hours to ourselves, some people took a nap, others headed right out to explore the city.

Sunday
1-7-2001
Breakfast at the hotel.
 
The morning was open for exploration. Many of us found the Internet Cafe around the corner and got a chance to check our e-mail.
 
At noon we depared for a four-hour "orientation" tour of Brussels. We stopped in the Grand Place for lunch and took several other breaks along the way for photos.

Monday
1-8-2001
Breakfast at the hotel. At 7:30 we left for our visit to ADP in the Netherlands.
 
We arrived at ADP's offices near Rotterdam at 10:00 AM and had a very interesting business meeting there.
 
Lunch was on ADP at a converted farm house, watch your head!
 
Around 1:00 PM we left for Amsterdam where we took a tour of the city by boat on the canals, toured the "red light" district (an essential part of the cultural experience) and had dinner. After a long day we took the bus back to Brussels.
 
Tuesday
1-9-2001
Breakfast at the hotel.
 
We took the bus at 9:45 AM for a meeting at the European Commission, 2 rue Van Maerlant, in Brussels. We were given an extensive information overview. At 12:00 our briefing ended and we headed back to the hotel. The afternoon was open for shopping and sightseeing. Some of the group went to Antwerp for a guided tour.
 
Tonight everyone is free to plan their own dinner.
 
Wednesday
1-10-2001
Breakfast at the hotel.
 
Depart by bus for a sightseeing tour of Bruges, one of the best preserved medieval cities in Europe.
 
After touring Burges, we stopped at the shopping mall on the outskirts of Brussels. As we shop we notice similarities and differences between malls in Belgium and the US.
 
Tonight everyone is free to plan their own dinner.
 
We end the day by packing our bags because tomorrow we move to Paris.
 
Thursday
1-11-2001
Breakfast at the hotel.
 
At 8:00 AM we depart by bus for Paris. We stop just over the border to exchange money and have an early lunch.
 
At approximately 1:00 PM we check into the Hotel Mercure Monty. At 2:00 PM we get back on the bus and head to Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. After a comprehensive briefing we take the Paris Metro (subway system) back to the hotel.
 
Dinner at the hotel.
 
After dinner we are on our own to explore Paris. Professors O'Rourke and Noone led an expedition to the Arch Of Triumph. A quick Metro ride, an easy walk up the Champs-Elysees and there it was.
 
Friday
1-12-2001
Breakfast at the hotel.
 
After breakfast we board the bus for an all day sightseeing tour of Paris. After lunch the group breaks up and heads for different parts of the city. Some head to the Louvre, some to the grave of Jim Morrison of "The Doors", a group went to Montmartre (a famous sightseeing area) while still others visited the shops.
 
We are on our own to plan dinner.
 
Everyone ends up back at the hotel and packs for the trip home although several linger for the long evening hours in the Champs-Elysees.
 
Saturday
1-13-2001
Up very early today. A light breakfast is served at the hotel and we board the bus at 6:00 AM for the trip to Charles DeGaulle airport.
 
At 8:20 AM we board SAS flight # 1572 for Oslo, Norway.
 
After a several hour layover in Oslo we board SAS flight # 907 which departs for Newark at 1:15 PM.
 
Arrived back at Newark at approximately 3:45 PM (local time). Everyone gets their bags, clears customs and heads for home.
